About Me

Hi there everyone!

My name is Musa Omar, and I’m the founder of The Maths Project. I live in Cape Town, South Africa and am currently studying medicine at the University of Cape Town. In the paragraphs to follow, I’m going to tell you a little bit about how my journey towards starting The Maths Project began…

When I was a kid, I was fascinated with all things maths. I was lucky to have great teachers, and my interest in the subject grew with each passing year. By the time I entered high school, I was entering olympiads on a regular basis, and doing quite well, if I may say so myself.

Because of my olympiad track record, I was invited to learn from some top mathematicians, and I grabbed that opportunity with both hands. It was incredibly hard work, don’t get me wrong, and I often spent sleepless nights sitting at my desk trying to grasp the concepts they were showing me, but how often does a high school kid get personal lessons from top mathematical minds?

During high school, I was tutoring fellow students all the time. When I graduated, and moved on to university, I continued tutoring, this time for agencies. This continued until late 2016, when I realised that if I was doing all this work for an agency, why not do it for myself? And so, The Maths Project was born!

Now that you know a bit more about me, let’s get stuck into the actual reason you’re here: to learn fun math tips! You’ll find them all on the blog posts, and I’ll also be doing some online courses on Fundamental Maths in the near future.

If you’re a math student, an adult trying to get to grips with some real-world mathematics concept, or simply a maths enthusiast, subscribe to the newsletter to be notified about my new posts and of course about the upcoming courses.

Math isn’t just about formulae and numbers. It’s a story,  and an art form. I’m looking forward to taking this journey with you all, and hopefully some of my love for math will rub off on you. If not, you’ll still have learned tons!

Have fun, and subscribe!
